2010 Law Day
The Canadian County Bar Association has announced their sponsorship of two Law Day activities. Law Day, which is being celebrated on April 29th this year, was conceived by Hicks Epton, a Wewoka, Oklahoma attorney and past president of the Oklahoma Bar Association. President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day nationally by presidential proclamation in 1958. Law Day is intended to be a specal day of celebration by the American people in appreciation of their liberties and as an occasion for rededication to the ideals of equality and justice under the law.
On April 29th from 5-9pm, members of the Canadian County Bar Association will provide free legal advice over the telephone to all residents of Canadian County. Members of the community can call either 354-2833 or 350-0990 to speak to an attorney free of charge. This event is being held in conjunction with the Oklahoma Bar Association's Ask A Lawyer TV broadcast which airs April 29th from 7-8pm on OETA.
In addition, members of the Canadian County Bar Association are offering to present a 30-45 minute program to any interested local civic club or group entitled "Oklahoma Courts 101." The program is an informative overview of the state and federal court systems in Oklahoma and covers topics such as the selection and retention of judges, funding for the courts, and the way in which a matter moves through the courts from trial through final appeal. Anyone interested in scheduling a speaker to present the program to their group should contact Canadian County Bar Association President Gabe Bass at 217-0703 or email him.
